Hijama

Hijama therapy is a traditional practice with roots in ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern medicine. It involves creating a vacuum inside cups placed on the skin to pull the skin and underlying tissues upwards. This is done either by using a pump or by heating the air inside the cup and then placing it on the skin.

Hijama” literally means “sucking” in Arabic and is the Islamic term used for what is known as “Wet Cupping”. Small, superficial cuts are made on the skin that was being dry cupped. The suction pressure under the cup would then stimulate the toxic or unhealthy blood to trickle out and cleanse the diseased of inflamed area of pain on the body.
